The Fog City

sf 1

Last summer we were in San Francisco twice and I can complain about the laws of my embassy which was the reason of the trip, but not gonna lie, it was worth it!

The city is huge and so diverse, you almost feel like you are visiting at least three different places for the price of one. It’s an awesome destination for visual artists and designers in search of inspiration, students and business people looking for new opportunities, foreigners and locals chasing exotic experiences to die for.

  1. Chinatown is one of the seven wonders to see, taste, smell and try. Don’t rush through it, be ready for adventure and lot’s of fun here. Have at least 2 hours to waste and trust me they will not be wasted.
  2. Pier 39 famous for its fat and shiny dwellers is always crowded and free. Enjoy the sea lions and be ready for tons of folks that come and go during the performance.
  3. Ride a cable car to feel the vibe of public unity in a big city. Lots of people will try to share it with you but it’s unique and fun, I have heard.
  4. Alcatratz is one of the biggest attractions because everyone wants to see the prison and imagine how they would escape from it, haha. This one needs to be booked in advance.
  5. The Palace of Arts is a huge architectural achievement built to inspire photo artists, lazy tourists and stray lovers. Walk there before the sunset to get the most out of it.
  6. Climb the Telegraph Hill chasing the elusive pack of parrots, we didn’t get to see them but you might be luckier. Stunning panorama is guaranteed.
  7. Golden Gate Park is something not to miss, wear comfortable shoes and an extra coat, you never know how long you would wanna stay there. Japanese Tea Garden is a part of it which is not free but well worth your time.

Transportation is multiple, you can rent a bike, take a bus or get an Uber. To stay somewhere nice and cheap try Air B&B. Be prepared for windy and rainy weather, bring warm clothes because it’s never too hot in San Francisco. Check out Trader Joe’s for snacks and drinks, they offer good price for the value. Explore the city on foot to find something by chance!

Twin Cities

IMG_20171229_201538

In winter Minneapolis is cold and windy but feels really nice, Minnesota ice is everywhere pure and white. The city is planned with such precision, you can’t believe it, downtown is glam and glitzy. European influence is obvious when you dive into architecture, fashion and taste. They say it’s multinational and I can tell it should be really appealing to many. Rivers and lakes make it even better especially in summer, I bet you can easily find the place to hike there. Otherwise, parks and gardens in the twin cities will come in handy to cool and shade a tired tourist.

Busy streets and skyways make it the city of the future, at least you hope to come back one day to love it even more. Maybe in warm season when not only it’s beautiful but also walkable. Can you imagine trying to wander every single street and enjoy being a part of the promising city life? Might be a bit scary at night but still fun. Music scene has a lot to offer, culture and art are there to suit any taste. Dine in every single café you liked and peek into majestic churches and cathedrals just for a second. You might discover a new world!

My dream is to visit more American icons like Chicago and LA. Will they be all the same or not? Stunning architecture, fancy shops, beautiful people… You probably have to stay for a week or two to really feel the atmosphere. Seattle is another place I want to visit one day, I wish we had this kind of freedom… travel always brings the sense of adventure, it’s like a gust of wind in the face that brings you back to life. You look around with your eyes wide open and never stop wondering…

I want to be forever young

обои (3)How to stay young? this question is something we have in common no matter what country or culture we came from. Rich and poor, black and white, men and women – we all want to know where the fountain of youth is.

Can you afford such luxuries as good sleep, healthy food and a steady relationship? It’s not as easy as a beauty shot or a gym membership but it works. Invest your time today and you will feel better tomorrow. Especially if you think of your food as a source of energy.

I decided to stop worrying about all the things I can’t change in life. Trying to embrace it is not easy. I realized I will not be rich or famous but I can survive I guess. There are things that I can’t do, there are people I can’t change, there are places I won’t see. So what? I can still find the reason to be happy and grateful.

I feel like being outside is a benefit for all of us. It helps living in real time and gives a perspective. It opens a new world providing some food for thought.

Spending time with your loved ones makes the world go round. And yes it helps you stay happy and young. It’s all in your hands, just live it, make it happen no matter what!

Black cats matter

This summer is unusual since I am taking care of two black cats, well a cat and a kitten. They get along quite well despite being completely different. The cat is smart and bold while the kitten is shy and kind of forgetful, he will easily miss his dinner time keeping himself preoccupied with other things. Oh well, you can guess who gets fatter meanwhile…

These furry friends do make my summer cool, they live in a basement apartment which is always dark and fresh as you can imagine. With cats you have got to learn a lot, for example, you have to be simultaneously strict and gracious to them. You need to entertain them while they are entertaining you. They will test your boundaries to make you feel so important and unimportant at the same time. This is when you start thinking about the dogs comparing pros and cons.

Pet owners live longer and feel more optimistic about life. Cats bring happiness to those who are looking for it. At the end of the day, we all need someone to keep us more in tune with the nature.

Good morning!

How to make your day better? Start with a winner morning. I am pretty sure you have heard this before. Well, summer is here which is honestly a perfect timing for kicking off a new habit. Here is a few things I plan to do myself cause you never know… It might actually work 🙂

  1. Mind your head before minding your feet. It’s Buddhist advice which makes you look in the mirror, comb your hair, smile at yourself and put your thoughts together before you run somewhere doing something.
  2. Meditate / pray or just sit quietly practicing Zazen for 20-30 minutes. Stay away from watching TV or checking your social media accounts at this point.
  3. Drink water before you have coffee or anything else. Play some music if you like.
  4. Have breakfast outside or inside. If you are not hungry in the morning, try to eat half of your meal the previous night saving the other half for the next day. Light dinner will help you sleep better and be hungry  the next morning.
  5. Keep your diary. Look back on what went well on a previous day, what could be done better next time, note lessons learned, plan and prioritize.

If you can do at least three of those every morning you will feel like a champion. Add sports/yoga activities if you like. Be good to yourself, life is too short to skip the best part of your day. Good morning!

How to cope

Yesterday at one of my art classes somebody asked me how to cope with depression. I looked at them going How did you know? Back in the days of college, oh my… I was so excited they asked me, so happy to help and so glad I am not there any more.

Just in case you were wondering how to cope with depression

  1. Eat. Seriously eat something real, not just doughnuts and ice-cream.
  2. Go outside, get some vitamin D while the sun is still shining. No gadgets, please.
  3. Ask for help. Don’t just suffer in silence. It can be a friend or a stranger, up to you.
  4. Engage yourself in art of drawing, cooking, singing, dancing or knitting.
  5. Find a Meetup group for something you always wanted to do but never got a chance to actually try.
  6. Write a letter or card to somebody who deserves it, an old friend or relative.
  7. Go to public library or city park to people/dog watch. It can be real fun!

Happiness is inside us but we do need contact with others to be our better selves.

I wish you the best of luck in your daily battles!
